Mafuta ni alama ya rutuba, nguvu, alama ya kuondoa maradh. Mafuta yanaponya majeraha, yanaupa mwili nguvu, yanaongeza ladha katika chakula na kukifanya kilete nguvu mwilini, pia yanaleta mwanga. Mafuta ni alama ya Amani, yanauletea mwili uzuri, na yanamhusisha mtu na mtumishi wa Mungu katika Agano Jipya mafuta (hasa krisma) ni alama ya Roho Mtakatifu aliyemshukia Kristu Yordani na kumfanya mpakwa wake kwa kazi ya kuihubiri Habari njema (Isa. 61:1ff) “Roho ya Bwana yu juu yangu kwa maana amenitia mafuta” (Lk 4:18) “Yesu wa Nazareti Mungu alivyomtia mafuta kwa Roho Mtakatifu na nguvu” (Mdo 110:38a)

MATUMIZI YA MAFUTA:

Kristo mwenyewe alianzisha utaratibu wa kutumia mafuta katika utoaji wa sakramenti tangu zamani mafuta yalitumika..

a) Kupona wagonjwa (Mk 6:13) na hivi kufukuza mashetani, hivyo kuna mpako wa Wagonjwa. “Msamaria mwema akafunga majeraha ya mjeruhiwa, akayatia mafuta na divai” (Lk 10:34)

b) Kuponya maradhi ya roho (Mafuta ya Wakatekumeni na mafuta ya wagonjwa)

c) Kwa ajili ya kutakatifuza kwa kumshusha Roho Mtakatifu atende kazi hiyo (Krisma)

- Ubatizo

- Kipaimara

- Ushemasi, Upadre, Uaskofu

- Kutakatifuza vitu kama Makanisa, Artale,Kalisi n.k.

Kumpaka mtu mafuta (Krisma) ni alama ya kumpa mtu yule heshima, uwezo, utawala unaohusika na mambo ya Mungu, ni alama ya kumuimarisha, kumponya mtu maradhi ya mwili na roho, ni alama ya kumkinga mtu na pepo mbaya.
